Sunset Park 04:11
sometimes I don’t know why I do the things I do sometimes I do everbody wants to look over the grand canyon edge oh, the pyramids oh, the brooklyn bridge oh, but don’t fall in sometimes I can see those mistakes I’m about to make a block and a half away long strides and downcast eyes won’t make an honest man of me I’ll stare out on the sea, the sea of tranquility get lost in a cool breeze sometimes near the cemetery I can feel a rumbling oh, it’s not god a-comin; It’s just the train under the earth sometimes I don’t know why I do the things I do sometimes I do I do, I do, I do I do sometimes I don’t know why I do the things I do oh, but sometimes; sometimes I do sometimes I don’t know why I do the things I do sometimes I do I do, I do, I do don’t you, don’t you, don’t you? I do

Bad Ideas 03:35
if nothing’s owned then nothing’s lost we’re all stewards of a time, of a place we’ll one day haunt don’t fade quietly in the dark be the lighthouse on the hill, be the other world apart I can keep a secret well take it to the grave sometimes good things come from bad ideas it ain’t wrong, we belong, it ain’t wrong two things can be true at once for every story there’s to tell, another side knows what is real so join the circus, free the lions be the silence in the noise, be the monster in the void I can keep a secret well take it to the grave sometimes good things come from bad ideas it ain’t wrong, we belong, it ain’t wrong It ain’t wrong, we belong, it ain’t wrong nothing’s lost, you’re right where you need to be looking back will only drive you crazy good things come from bad ideas it ain’t wrong, we belong, it ain’t wrong it ain’t wrong, we belong, it ain’t wrong

well, suppose all of the screens died and people woke up in the middle of their lives pale skin and crooked spines wouldn’t know if they had their own minds where dreams were growing like secret vines and swallowing up whole the world we used to know if you see me sleepwalking, shake me, wake me up down the middle of the street, over by the river where the city is shimmering I might beg you let me sleep but don’t you let me be alone if you find me sleepwalking I want you to be the one to bring me home well, suppose time didn’t move so fast and the years didn’t collect like rain in a wine glass weathered skin and worry lines wouldn’t show even if the light wasn’t just right and light is something that shines from the inside catching shadows of our youth, dancing on the moon if you see me sleepwalking, shake me, wake me up down the middle of the street, over by the river where the city is shimmering I might beg you let me sleep but don’t you let me be alone if you find me sleepwalking I want you to be the one to bring me home well, suppose love never led astray and you’ve never watched the world roll by from the window of a train charging through the thick and thin the endless plains or the mighty mountains past tiny homes and gardens where the wind chimes sway and sing and crickets do their thing if you see me sleepwalking, shake me, wake me up if you find me sleepwalking I want you to be the one to bring me home

Later On 02:51
later on when all the pleasantries have run their course we’re alone for once and you and I drift like a song heard in the forest there are no rules in the love that we seek the only truth is the love that we keep there are new worlds in the love that we speak so, say it now because, later on when yesterday’s an outline in the fog you remember what you didn’t do more than the things you’ve done come off that plateau and roll in the grass let the time go and start living like that there are new worlds in the love that we have so, say it now there are no rules in the love that we seek the only truth is the love that we keep there are new worlds in the love that we speak so, say it now there’s no (there’s no) what if there’s no (there’s no) guarantee that (there’s a) another time where (we’ll know) later on (don’t wait for) later on (don’t wait for) later on (don’t wait for) later on

Ricochet 03:49
I awoke, and listened to the pouring rain ricochet, off the surface of the city what if every drop was a reason why, I would love you for who you are we’d be running down the storm drain falling towards an endgame washed away in the flood I’ve wondered about love like this as real as it gets yesterday will always be there tomorrow’s gone before it’s here don’t rush this moment I’ve wondered about love like this unforeseen and unexpected yesterday will always be there tomorrow’s gone before it’s here don’t rush this moment I forgot what I’ve learned so many times ricochet through the corners of a lonely mind what if every thought was a way of life, I would think only of us we’d be opposites of seasons inverses of meaning reconfiguring as one I’ve wondered about love like this unforeseen and unexpected yesterday will always be there tomorrow’s gone before it’s here don’t rush this moment cross the street in the morning coffee waiting at the window swept up in the process the headlines and the footnotes I wonder about every little difference what could I make? I want to be there in the sea change wide awake I’ve wondered about love like this I’ve wondered about love like this as real as it gets yesterday will always be there tomorrow’s gone before it’s here don’t rush this moment

was it just a second-handed scheme? someone else outgrew then had no further need you’re Woodward in those dresses, I’m Newman in these jeans and we look timeless in someone else’s throwaway dreams was it just the wind that swept you in? on the doorstep all the way at this deadend you’re telling me my future without saying a word and we feel steady just watching records spin in circles the candle’s burning low in your bedroom window in the blue-grey morning light a new day on the horizon I can hear your heartbeat through the quiet weaving tapestry with someone else's throwaway dreams are we just a product of circumstance or do stars and tarot cards factor in we’re giving such good answers to questions we don’t own there’s no return and no exchanges but one day we’ll pass them on

every song I wrote was you not for you but in place of you because you only gave me promise when I needed something constant I threw all those unfinished verses into the wind and let them scatter the hardest thing wasn’t losing you it was just that it didn’t really matter never trust a grapevine’s rattle don’t let you heart become light although it’s effortless to follow an allusion ringing hollow so I stared out at the traffic and wondered how I could allow the hardest thing wasn’t forgetting you It’s remembering you now slow enough not to see the changes fast enough not to say goodbye it’s better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all so when the wind kicks up old stories I just smile and let it carry me for awhile

it’s been a lonely departure from the way that I’ve known what is this new place I’m going? all alone - it makes me wonder who is this version of myself? How do I ask it to leave? giving me only backwards directions I batten down the hatches then cut ‘em free and let the wind and rain come down on me blue skies a distant memory so lay me down and let me be watch the storm roll overhead like a freight train running I’m on the tracks laying as low as I can take my money and take my pride bruise my skin and blacken my eyes set me back to a simple time watching the clouds roll you forget that forgetting is easy - you don’t have to try although that one thing outstays it’s welcome And in the night, eats you alive who’s is that voice that I’m hearing? It echoes across the ravine hanging on with the treeline deserters running the judicious out of town change the locks and switch it all around strip the clocks and keep the daylight out so, Lay me down and let me be watch the storm roll overhead like a wild pack of hungry strays rattling bones and eyes of dread take my money and take my pride can’t take my soul can’t take my mind set me back to a simple time watching the clouds roll lay me down and let me be watch the storm roll overhead like a rogue wave out at sea pray for tomorrow and hold my breath take my fortune, take my delight can’t take my soul can’t take my mind set me back to a simple time watching the clouds roll listen to the time go watching the clouds roll where does all the time go?

my father was once a kid just like his father was before now I get there - I can see them in my face no kidding anymore he always used to laugh didn’t measure love or money said sit here one more minute with me before you carry me down in that old wagon carry me down in these clothes I’m wearing carry me down to the edge of the tide said: if they’re asking for you still, you did something right.” obvious, not obvious the trail ever thinning in the brush steps behind you - shadows chasing the same light, that you’re still trying to touch. now I can hear his laugh in my own it’s quite uncanny and his voice asking so kindly would you carry me down across the slow grassy hill carry me down to the edge of the tide carry me down - it’s a task I’ll return said: if they’re asking for you still, you did something right.” so, take your shot it’s worth the shock you might surprise yourself no reversing, you’ve rehearsed those lonely pages wilt under your breath
10.
I can’t keep my mind off of you thinking about you is all I do missed my ride and now I’m standing on the corner in the rain happiness is strange to me walking through the park and over the bridge drifting in and out of conversation drinking coffee bumming cigarettes save quarters for the phone we don’t have to be alone we don’t know what comes next through the entrances and for the exits the curtains fall the lights are set let there be no regret nothing stays the same even the stars keep on stretching out further apart while the light you see is radiating from a distant past I don’t know how it goes so fast we don’t know what comes next through the entrances and for the exits the curtains fall the lights are set let there be no regret we don’t know what comes next through the entrances and for the exits the curtains fall the lights are set let there be no regret
